I think that violence always generates violence. 1
If educating young people means showing them the way they should behave when adults,
it is obvious that imposing one’s own arguments mostly through violence is not the most desired pattern o behaviour in adulthood.
Some people say, however that the loss of discipline in schools is closely linked to the abolition of corporal punishment
and they claim that education is not possible without discipline.
Educating young people through punishment and repression seemed to be the most successful way in the past.
However, a radical change in the Western world educational attitude took place at the end of World War II.
Fortunately, children are now entitled to similar human rights as grown ups.
The United Nations solemnly declare the Rights of the Child.
And body punishment was totally abolished in most school systems, private schools in Britain being an exception.
